We call it…
"One of Yorkshire's hidden gems"

It just a couple of minutes from the A650 main road and the busy heart of West Yorkshire, but tucked down a lane in a quiet residential area. Here you'll find comfy sofas and good food, a terraced garden and restful views of the surrounding countryside - but the centres of Leeds and Bradford are so close, either by car or train and Leeds/Bradford airport is about 20 minutes drive. For tourists, Haworth, Skipton, "Emmerdale Country" and Harrogate are all but a short drive away.

Style
The Hotel is a chunky Victorian stone building which commands good views along the Aire valley. Inside, there is period furniture, interesting paintings and some striking ceramics. It's an independent hotel and we can allow ourselves to be more individual and less bland than some of the big chain hotels. The style is relaxed and friendly. The owners know that the Five Rise Locks Hotel is the kind of place they would choose to stay in.

Owners
The hotel is owned by Lin and Stuart Doughty. (Stuart was previously a television producer and made many episodes of television dramas like Brookside, Emmerdale and Heartbeat).

History
Originally called Hall Bank, the house was built in 1875 for a mill owner named Aked. (His initials, EA, are carved on a gable). The house gave its name to the adjacent road, Hall Bank Drive.
The house was altered and extended through the 20th century as different owners made their mark. One of them set up an artist's studio in the upper turret - now room 9.
In the 1950s the house was rented out: among the tenants was the American Consul in Bradford. In the 1960s the house became a Prep School.
By the early 1970s the house was operating as the Hall Bank Hotel. In 1994 the hotel's name changed to its present one.

Rooms
We have six double rooms, two twin-bedded rooms and one single. All nine bedrooms are different, varying in size, aspect, décor and furnishings.
Of course they all have en-suite bathrooms and many have great views. Two are on the ground floor, one is on the second floor and the remainder are on the first floor. They all offer television, trouser press, tea and coffee making facilities and a hair dryer.
