| A warm welcome awaits you at The Dukes, a beautiful half timbered former farmhouse dating from Tudor times. Situated in the heart of North Shropshire countryside, it provides a perfect rural retreat, yet is still within easy reach of Chester, Shrewsbury, Shropshire's Lakeland and the North Wales coast. |
 | Set in glorious grounds comprising lawns, established shrubberies and rose borders, an ancient dew pond and a tennis court and summerhouse, the house itself is full of character, affording a wealth of oak beams, and with delightful views from every window. |
| We offer high quality accommodation for a small number of guests. |
| Bedrooms, with en-suite bath or shower, are tastefully furnished and equipped with hot drinks tray, television, hairdryer and many extras. A family suite is also available. | |
 | The Dukes is an ideal place to relax: find a quiet corner of the garden to hide away with a book or look out for the rich variety of wildlife, from our resident moorhen families to the occasional curlew or buzzard overhead. For those feeling more energetic, the tennis court is on hand (racquets are available and coaching can be arranged). |

Things To Do
The Maelor Way, a long distance footpath, runs just a field away. Then there are golf courses at Carden Park, Whitchurch and Hawkstone Park, local fishing, Bangor-on-Dee Racecourse just up the road - or borrow our mountain bikes to explore the lanes, which abound with wild flowers in spring and early summer. Hanmer, with its impressive mere and medieval church is a short walk or bike ride away.
Further afield, the historic centres of Chester and Shrewsbury, or market towns such as Nantwich or Oswestry provide interesting excursions, as do the National Trust properties of Erddig Hall and Chirk and Powys Castles. | |
 | A hearty farmhouse breakfast is on offer and guests are welcome to join us for an evening meal, by prior arrangement. Otherwise, we are happy to suggest a range of other ideas, as well as some excellent restaurants or pubs to round off your day. |
