Brockenhurst and the New Forest
One of the few remaining New Forest villages where ponies and cattle still have right of way as they freely graze the land. Being in the heart of the region it makes for a perfect touring centre; Salisbury, the Isle of Wight, Southampton, Bournemouth, Poole, Lymington and Beaulieu are all easily accessible.
We really are in a remarkable corner of the English countryside designated as a special place more than nine centuries ago by William the Conqueror. At that time William named it his New hunting forest. Over the centuries too many places have changed beyond recognition, yet the New Forest's ancient woodlands and heaths remain largely intact.
This most English of forests continues to be a living and working community. This is also reflected in our Hotel's "Foresters Rights", which entitles the owners to a free "Cord" (a large lorry load) of logs each winter and grazing rights for their stock.
