Functions

With 4.5 acres of gardens, stream and spring, you can make your day even more special.

The original part of Cleeves was built in 1735 and operated for many years as an ale-house. Legend has it that Vasco de Gama's treasure is buried in one of the wells on the property. These have long since been filled and presumably the treasure must be lost forever.

In the hallway of the main house, one of the original walls has been exposed and ceiling beams still exist in several rooms, many of which still contain the fireplaces which are no longer used.

The coach-house has been converted to provide additional guest accommodation and is annexed to the main house. In the days before vast sums of money could be earned by football stars, the chairman of Arsenal football club owned the house for many years and built the billiard room as an extension to the house so that the football team could relax there after the game. Nowadays, this oak panelled room has been converted to a conference room.

Four and a half acres, maintained by 6 gardeners during its heyday, is now mainly to grass with many mature trees, sporting a stream fed by spring water and populated by ducks and kingfishers.

Deer can often be seen on the croquet lawn which was initially a grass tennis court, built above the old Roman road. From the breakfast room windows, beyond the walled patio, grass stretches to the willow tree at the edge of the stream, where sometimes can be spotted heron.
