York
York is one of the best preserved medieval walled cities in Britain. You will find a wealth of things to see and places to go celebrating 2,000 years of (fairly disastrous) history from the Romans and Vikings to the present day. There is the Gothic majesty of the Minster, the homely medieval charm of the Shambles, the Castle Museum with its complete full size Victorian street, the Jorvik Viking Centre - complete with earthy smells!...

The largest Railway Museum in the world not forgetting the Richard III Museum - It is said that King Richard actually commissioned the top story of this superb museum situated in Monk Bar (only a 2 minute walk). You can take a guided walking / ghost tour and discover hidden treasures, or sit back on a Bus Tour or River Cruise. You can walk on the City Walls or meander through a maze of Snickelways (alleyway). The shops vary from Craft and Antiques to up-to-the-minute fashion! The Yorkshire countryside is well worth exploring: the North York Moors / Steam Railway, the Dales, Castle Howard, the Coast - Whitby, Scarborough - are all accessible by car or Coach Trip.
