   | We're independent - and just a bit individual. The hotel is owned and run by us - Stuart and Lin Doughty. We're a husband and wife team who bought Charlton Kings Hotel in May 2008. Previously we'd owned a hotel in West Yorkshire. We're Londoners by birth but have lived in various parts of England. We only want to run the kind of hotel that we'd like to stay in ourselves. So you'll find Charlton Kings has a certain individuality, a certain personality that reflects us. After all, we live in the building too - it's our home as well as our business. That doesn't mean you'll trip over our slippers in Reception, but it does mean we're always on hand to look after you. (Well... we have to sleep sometimes!) We're interested in our guests; we're able to carry on intelligent conversation on many topics - or keep quiet as required. We aim to run as professional an operation as we can. We're not answerable to anyone except ourselves (and our bank manager). We'll give you the best service we can within the limited resources of a small hotel. We aim to make a profit, but if we were trying to get rich we wouldn't be in this business. | Double Rooms have a standard double bed; the en suite bathroom has a bath with shower over. Larger Double or Twin Rooms are a little bit bigger! Single Rooms have an en suite with a shower only. For children we can put collapsible (but comfortable) "Z-beds" into the larger rooms. For very young children you are welcome to bring your own travel cot. Dogs are welcome in all the bedrooms (but not in the beds!). We do not charge for dogs. Discounts are available for longer stays 3/4 Nights B&B. | Food, Drink & Functions We aim to provide fairly straightforward meals prepared with honesty and care. We are not into gastronomic experiment or culinary pyrotechnics. We use a local butcher who sources his meat locally, and is especially proud of his Gloucester Old Spot Pork. Our Chickens and our Eggs are free range. We try very hard to avoid frozen produce, and endeavour to prepare as much on the premises as is possible for a small establishment. Our bar is small, but provides almost everything you might want. We have three good regular beers in bottles: Black Sheep Ale (from Masham), Adnams Bitter from Suffolk and the very good local Cheltenham S.P.A. which is brewed hardly a mile from our doorstep. We have about 20 wines on our list - nothing flash, but all provide decent and varied drinking. A bottle of house wine is very good value at £10. Breakfast is cooked to order as far as humanly possible. Morning Coffee, Sandwich Lunches, and Afternoon Tea are served as required. Dinner is served from 6.30 pm to about 8.30pm. On Sundays we offer a 3 course traditional Lunch for just £15. Our Chef is Jake, and he's assisted by Lin and Witold. Stuart does the breakfasts. We're open to non-residents, of course, for meals or drinks, and we're also delighted to cater for functions: Family Dinner Parties, Lunch Parties, Birthdays, Wedding Anniversaries, Funeral Teas or Business Meetings. Please phone 01242 231061 to discuss your requirements. We are a small place and know what goes into our dishes: we can therefore satisfy most food intolerances. How to Find Us It's pretty simple really. We're slap bang on the A40. If you're coming from the East (London or Oxford) keep on the A40 and we're the first building you come to as you enter Cheltenham. If you're coming from the M5 or the west, north or south, drive towards the centre of Cheltenham and follow signs for Oxford A40. Follow the A40 through the town and as you leave Cheltenham we are the last building on your right. The suburb of Charlton Kings is well signposted in and around Cheltenham. No satnav required.
