| Bed and breakfast accommodation Bog House is right off the beaten track in glorious open countryside with stunning views; very peaceful - only birdsong to wake you! The property is a spacious stone built barn conversion dating from 1724. Sympathetic refurbishment to a high standard has been completed recently. |
Accommodation.
One double bedroom with private bathroom, one twin bedroom with en suite bathroom, both having television, radio and tea making facilities. An additional single bedroom. All bedrooms are ground floor. Large private drawing room for guests with television and log fire. Use of terrace and courtyard - weather permitting. Plenty of car parking space and lock up facility for bicycles. This is a no smoking house. |

Food.
A full English or Continental breakfast is included with ingredients locally sourced (for example traditionally cured farm bacon) and organic wherever possible. Packed lunches can be provided by arrangement. There are several good pubs and restaurants within a 3-5 mile radius. For supper menu, please see the owners personal web site. |

| Local attractions. We are 2 miles north of Hadrian's Wall and ideally placed for walking the wall or exploring the ancient Roman Forts of Housesteads, Vindolanda and Chesters. Corbridge is nearby with its famous bridge over the River Tyne as is Aydon Castle. The market town of Hexham can be reached in 20 mins - this boasts historic Hexham abbey plus the Queens Hall concert venue, a variety of shops, indoor swimming pool and gymnasium.Newcastle-upon-Tyne is only 25 minutes by car and has much to offer including The Laing Art Gallery, St Nicholas Cathedral, The Baltic Art Centre, Millenium Bridge together with fine architecture much by John Dobson. Also Eldon Square & Gateshead Metro Centre for shopping. Matfen with its 18 hole golf course and Matfen Hall country House Hotel is just 3 miles away. One hours drive from Alnwick Castle and Alnwick Garden. Other attractions include Durham Cathedral, Beamish Museum, kielder Water, the great castles of Dunstanburgh, Bamburgh and Warkworth, also Holy Island. |
| How to find us. From Newcastle and the A1 take the A69. At the Wylam/Stamfordham junction follow signs for B6318 and Chollerford. Travel West towards Chollerford on B6318 past reservoirs and Robin Hood Inn. After 500 metres turn right signed Moorhouse. Continue for 1 mile and turn right at t junction, after one more mile come to a corner and follow sign (left) to Bog House, Butcher Hill and Thornham Hill.Bog House is the last farm on the left (approx 1 mile), halfway up the drive turn right into gravel sweep outside front door. From the west and Carlisle: At the Errington Arms/Stagshaw roundabout junction of the A68 and B6318 military road/hadrians wall, head towards Newcastle on the B6318. After 3.5 miles you come to the Moorhouse turn on your left, take this and proceed as above. Do not go into Matfen, we are 3 miles out of the village. |
