![]() ![]() Telephone: 01825 750733 Batchelor's Hall is a late 17th, early 18th century house set in gardens and orchards of approximately 2/3rds of an acre. It is easy to find, being situated on the A26 and is within easy walking distance of several pub/restaurants that are noted for the quality and value of the food they serve. In the Main house there are two, twin bedded rooms that share a lavatory and washing facilities.On the same floor, is a further lavatory and separate bathroom. Downstairs is a large shower room and toilet. The Breakfast/Sitting room has an inglenook fireplace and panelled walls. Both bedrooms have tea and coffee making facilities, TV's and radio cassettes. Ironing facilities are available and hair dryers are also provided. This is a family home and guests are treated as friends. Breakfast is served as required but no later than 10AM. Early breakfast can be provided if having to catch the Newhaven ferry. Off road parking is available. The Annexe is totally self contained and is available for short or long term lets. It can sleep up to four people. It is located in the tranquil setting of the orchard. The gardens and orchard are visited by badgers, foxes, rabbits, squirrels, hedghogs and many varieties of birds. There is a double bedroom with wardrobe, chest of drawers, bedside tables, clock radio/alarm clock. The sitting room has a double sofa bed/settee, armchair, coffee table, colour TV/DVD, CD/radio, wood burning stove, dining table and chairs. The small kitchen has electric cooker, microwave, fridge, etc. The bathroom comprises a lavatory, washbasin and shower. During the summer months, you can dine outside in the orchard where garden furniture is provided for sitting out, eating and relaxing. Further seating is provided to the front of the bungalow to catch the evening sun. There is a dedicated parking space on the forecourt. In the winter months, the woodburner keeps the property warm and cosy. Logs are provided. The annexe is available for a minimum of a three night stay. We operate a strict NO SMOKING policy in both the house and annexe and guests are asked to respect this fact. There is also a cat on the premises. Payment by cash or cheque only (sterling). Sites of Interest and Places to Visit within forty minutes drive: Glyndebourne, the world famous opera house is just three miles away. There are also many beautiful gardens and National Trust properties within easy reach of Batchelor's Hall such as: Sheffield Park, Wakehurst Place, Borde Hill, Nymans Gardens, Leonardslee and Great Dixter. Other attractions to be found close by are; Alfriston Clergy House, Monks House, Charleston Farmhouse, Firle Place, Michelham Priory, Herstmonceux Castle and Batemans.Drusilla's Zoo, Bentley Wildfowl Motor Museum and the famous Bluebell Railway are also just a short drive away. Here in the village is the Lavender Line steam railway. There is also a small model railway. Excellent breakfasts are provided in Cinders, at the Lavender Line. The County Town of Sussex, Lewes, is just four miles away with direct trains to London. There are many beautiful buildings to be seen in Lewes, as well as the castle and ruined abbey. Brighton is just twenty minutes drive away, as are Tunbridge Wells and Eastbourne. LOCAL HOSTELIRES. At the end of the garden is the Halfway House pub, in the village itself, is the Laughing Fish, and just South on the A26 is the Old Ship. A couple of miles further on, (A26) is The Cock Inn. A walk across the fields takes you to the Anchor Inn at Barcombe. You can hire boats from The Anchor to go out on the river. GOLF The East Sussex National Golf Club is just up the road (North on the A26). FISHING Fishing is available by day permit on the River Ouse. During the season, the largest recorded Sea Trout in the UK come up the River Ouse. There are also many species of coarse fish in the Ouse. The Bailiff lives in the village and will give more information as required. He also issues day tickets. RIDING There is a local riding school that provides escorted rides in the immediate locality. Further out on the Ashdown Forest there is another riding establishment. TRANSPORT. Gatwick airport is within easy reach, as is the Newhaven ferry. There are main line Rail links to Gatwick, London or Hastings from either Lewes or Haywards Heath. There is a train station in Uckfield that provides links to North Surrey and into London. Buses run approximately every ½ hour to Lewes, Brighton and Tunbridge Wells. The nearest Tourist Board Information Centre is in Lewes. TO FIND BATCHELOR'S HALL. Coming from the coast -A27. Go through Lewes, from the roundabout at the Culfail tunnel, take the main road towards Tunbridge Wells - A26. Stay on this road. After 3 miles, you pass a garage on your left. A mile after this garage, is The Old Ship pub/restaurant and a slip road towards Isfield. DO NOT TURN OFF. Stay on the A26 and within 1/2 mile there is long high hedge on your left. At the end of this hedge are some tall trees that mark the entrance to Kiln Lane. As soon as you see the SLOW markings in the road, slow down and indicate left. It is a very small lane and can easily be overshot - if you get to the Half Way House pub you have literally just missed the house. Batchelor's Hall is the first house on the right in Kiln Lane. There is a large garage forecourt with ample parking space. Coming from Tunbridge WellsA26/Uckfield/A22. From Tunbridge Wells, follow directions to Lewes, Eastbourne. As you approach Uckfield, stay on the Uckfield By Pass. After the little roundabout to Uckfield, continue onto the next roundabout (Little Horsted) signposted, Ridgewood, Lewes, Eastbourne. Take the Lewes turn off (to your right) onto the A26. Continue for about 3 miles. On your right is the Half Way House Pub. Slow down and indicate Right. Kiln Lane is immediately after the Half Way House and Batchelor's Hall is first house on the right. Coming from Haywards Heath A272. Come out of Haywards Heath and head towards Lewes/Uckfield on the A272. You pass through Scayne's Hill, Chailey & Newick. When you get to Piltdown, the road to Isfield is just past the Total garage/petrol station, (on your right) approximately 100 yards after the Piltdown Man pub, turn right here. There is also a sign for the Lavender Line and Shortbridge vineyard. Follow this road past the pond on your left. Continue on past the Peacock Inn which is on your right. Just past the Peacock on the bend of the road is a small lane to your right. There is a sign for the Lavender Line. Take this lane and when you reach the T-junction, bear right. Follow the road down through the village until you come to the old Railway line and T-junction (about 3 miles). Turn right onto the Lewes Road. After half a mile you pass Boat House farm on your right with a large pond to your left. 20 yards further on, is Kiln Lane on your left. Go down Kiln Lane almost to the end (1/2 mile) and Batchelor's Hall is the last house on the left. Tariffs B&B Single Occupancy from £35. B&B Twin Occupancy from £55.
