Facilities A completely smoke free house with modern facilities, Balmillig offers underfloor heating, excellent spacious showers and comfortable beds in a mixture of twin, double and superking bedded rooms. Free wifi internet access is available for those with laptops (we also have a laptop available for hire). All rooms have TV, alarm radio, DVD player and a hairdryer. Breakfast Enjoy fruit juice, cereals or porridge, fruit, toasted bread, oatcakes, homemade marmalade, and a choice of freshly cooked eggs, bacon, mushrooms, tomatoes and tattie scones. Have some or all; the choice is yours. Wherever possible we use quality local produce. Earlier breakfasts are available if required for earlier starts. Breakfast is served in the conservatory, so while you enjoy your cornflakes you can watch the birds and squirrels enjoying theirs! Lounge/Conservatory This large heated space is comfortably furnished and has games, books and lots of information about the area. Parking and Garden There is off street parking within the spacious and colourful garden which has a patio area where you can enjoy the summer annuals as well as the varied collection of shrubs, trees and herbaceous perennials selected to support wildlife as well as providing year round fragrance, floral and foliage interest. Restaurants and Shopping Balmillig is within easy walking distance of bus and train services, seafront, park, shops and restaurants. We have a large file with menus for most local restaurants. Green Issues To be as 'green' as possible, Balmillig is built to top energy conservation standards. The garden is widlife friendly, we recycle plastics, paper etc, compost kitchen waste and solar collectors contribute to water heating. |

Travel Directions From the South and Glasgow Airport, travel west on M8 following signs for Loch Lomond and Erskine Bridge. Cross bridge to join the A82 (exit left from bridge) and follow Loch Lomond signs. About 12 miles later, at 4th roundabout, take 1st exit to A818 into Helensburgh. In Helensburgh, about half way down long hill, turn right into Millig Street just before traffic island. Turn 1st left into Colquhoun Street and Balmillig entrance drive is 1st left in this block (look for blue sign under large tree). From the North Follow the A82 and turn right (last exit) onto A818 and follow signs for Helensburgh. Airport and station pick ups and drops We are happy to arrange transport from and to Glasgow and Prestwick airports and Glasgow or Helensburgh railway stations. Public transport to and from Balmillig Being roughly midway between Helensburgh's Central and Upper Stations and no more than a ten minute walk from both, Balmillig is conveniently located for guests travelling by public transport. There is a regular half hourly service between Glasgow and Helensburgh Central, while the Upper Station is served by around 12 trains a day. The Upper Station is on the famously scenic West Highland Line which boasts the London Sleeper Service as well as 4 trains to and from Oban, 4 to and from Fort William/Mallaig and 6 to and from Glasgow. Helensburgh also serves as a local bus service 'hub' with connections to Dumbarton and Glasgow as well as the beautifully situated Clyde sea loch villages of Garelochhead, Clynder, Rosneath , Kilcreggan, Cove and Arrochar. There are also bus connections to the Loch Lomondside communities of Balloch, Luss and Tarbet. |
