Gloucester offers such a wide variety of family and leisure and entertainment, they've invented a word for it - Gloucestering!

There are several top class municipal and private golf courses. Gloucester has one of the largest dry ski slopes. There are many varied walks along the River Severn and unspoilt scenic countryside. To follow your family tree, we are 2 minutes walk from the records office.

The Guildhall Arts Centre has a national reputation for quality live entertainment - theatre, dance festivals, films and specialised music events.

Gloucester's Victorian Docks, Britain's most inland port, is regularly used for filming with credits including the Onedin Line and Martin Chuzzlewit.

City Centre Location

The Albert is within walking distance of the City's shops and attractions but is set apart from the hustle and bustle of the city centre. We are an easy five minute walk from the train, coach and bus stations. If you drive, then we have our own safe car park.

Gloucester's many attractions

Gloucesters magnificent Norman Cathedral is a must for any visitor, used in the filming of the Choir and Harry Potter and the Philosophers Stone.

We would also recommend exploring the Gloucester Docks complex with 14 impressive Victorian warehouses that have recently undergone a major restoration. The docks are now home to the Gloucester Antiques Centre and a variety of museums including the National Waterways Museum; G.L.I. (leisure Centre); The Soldiers of Gloucestershire Museum; and The Gloucester Folk, Transport, and Prison Museums.

You may also enjoy relaxing trip on the River Severn or Gloucester Canal.

The Albert is a listed building, with fine Georgian windows. It dates back over 150 years.

The Albert Hotel originally belonged to one of the wealthy shipping merchants who used to opertate the docks.

In 49AD the Romans established Gloucester as one of their 3 main fortresses called Glevum. The Romans left their mark on Gloucester.

On show in The Albert dining room are stones from the original roman Wall of Glevum!
