The town of Fleetwood has a population of about twenty six thousand eight hundred and forty. There was a slight decline in the popualtion between 1976 and 2001 whilst the total popualtion of the borough rose by about eleven per cent. The population of Fleetwood is mainly made up from white nationals and this equates to about ninty nine per cent and the rest is split between South Asian, Black and Mixed Race.
The economy of the town of Fleetwood still revolves mainly around tourism, fishing, port activities and also light industry. It would be fair to say that since the early part of the 1970's the economy within the town has struggled. The biggest employer within the town is Lofthouse who is the manufacturers of the Fishermans Friend which is the menthol lozenge popular all across the world.
