The city of Dundee is the fourth largest city in Scotland. The proper name for Dundee is Dundee City and it governed by Dundee City Council. Dundee lies on the banks of the Firth of Tay, which is fed, into the North Sea.

The city of Dundee reached its peak with regards to the population in the 1970's when it had a population of about two hundred thousand however since then the population has decreased slightly by people moving out of the area. Nowadays Dundee has a population of about one hundred and fifty one thousand eight hundred and twenty.

Dundee is being promoted as the city of discovery. This is in honour of the history that Dundee has with regards to scientific activities and also some of the things that were build in Dundee. Some of the things that were built within Dundee include RRS Discovery, which was the exploration vessel for Robert Falcon Scott when he went to explore the Antarctic.

Since the 1980's Dundee has played a large part within the sectors of biomedicine and technology. Dundee accounts for about ten percent of the digital entertainment industry within the United Kingdom.

Dundee hosts two universities that are the Dundee campus of the University of Abertay and also the University of Dundee. Dundee is also home to the theatre of Scottish Dance and the city is renowned for the Dundee Repertory Theatre.

The Royal Scottish National Orchestra regularly performs within the Caird Hall within the city of Dundee. On the 5th of March 2004 Dundee was granted status as a Fairtrade City.
