
The Scottish burgh of Dufftown is located within the area that is known as Moray. The area was originally known as Mortlach during the time of the Middle Ages. Up until the nineteenth century the Earl of Fife erected the town as a housing area for soldiers returning from the war and he named the town as Dufftown. The town of Dufftown hosts the annual event of Highland Games and these take place in July. The Highland Games attract a vast number of tourists every year.
The town of Dufftown has some notable buildings and these include the Balvenie Castle and it was partly built with stones that were taken from the ruins of Auchindoun Castle that is close by. There are a lot of distilleries within the area and these are the Mortlach, Glenfiddich, Kininvie, Dufftown and also Balvenie. There were once some other distilleries that were once in the area and these are Convalmore, Pittyvaich and also Parkmore.
The Harry Potter series that was known as the Hogwarts is the main setting of the series and this thought to be close to the town of Dufftown.
