Chipping Norton, located in Oxfordshire, is situated in the Cotswold Hills. The town is located approximately 19 kilometers southwest of Banbury and is also the highest town located above sea level in Oxfordshire. In 1581 the town of Chipping Norton was the home of the poet Elizabeth Jane Weston and she was born in the town however soon afterwards she moved to Prague to be with her mother and stepfather. Her stepfather was known as Edward Kelly and he was an alchemist in the court of Emperor Rudolf the second.

In 1616 the infamous local highwayman James Hind was born in the town. In 1652 he was executed for the crime, high treason.

Nowadays the town of Chipping Norton is a major area for leisure and retail. The town features a vast array of shops including a supermarket and a variety of chain stores. There are also a large number of public houses within the town and there is also a theatre.

The town of Chipping Norton has a strong educational network that consists of two primary schools and a secondary school. The primary schools within the town are known as Holy Trinity, which is Roman Catholic, St Mary's that is the Church of Scotland.
