Chippenham is an English market town located in the county of Wiltshire. The town of Chippenham is about thirteen miles east of Bath and about ninety-six miles west of London.

The town of Chippenham is situated on the area where the river Avon is thought to have existed in the times of the Romans. For some time Alfred the Great had a hunting lodge within the Chippenham area.

The town of Chippenham saw a massive increase in the population once the Great western Railway arrive in 1841. The town historically had about half the economy of the surrounding commuter towns.

There is a selection of festivals that are held on an annual basis such as the Chippenham Folk Festival. The Association of Chippenham Folk Festival hosts the festival and it is organised by a festival team made up entirely of volunteers!.

The town of Chippenham is twinned with the area of La Fleche in France and Friedberg in Germany. The motto for the town is Loyalty and Unity.

The town of Chippenham has a population of about twenty eight thousand and sixty five. There has been a lot of housing development within the town and this has led to an increase in population since 1991 when the population was only about twenty five thousand three hundred and seventy six. There are more plans for housing development within the town of Chippenham and it is thought that the population will rise again to about thirty five thousand and this will make Chippenham the third largest town within the Wiltshire area.
