Bridport, situated in Dorset, is a typical market town. Originally, the town served as a fishing port. Although the port in Bridport is actually no longer in existence, there is a harbor located nearby. The local area is considered to be one of the best places in the UK to live. Visitors will find there is plenty in and around the town to recommend Bridport, including an array of dining, shopping and accommodation options. The museum is certainly worth a visit while in Bridport, as well as a walk through the quaint and interesting downtown.

Bridport is an English town that is located within the area of Dorset. The town is located close to the western coast of Chesil Beach at the point where the River Brit and the River Asker meet. The town was originally a fishing port and a centre for rope making. The port no longer exists within the town and the nearest harbour is about one mile away at West Bay.

In the 2006 competition to find the best place to live in the United Kingdom West Dorset came tenth place. The town of Bridport is twinned with Saint-Vaast-la-Hougue, which is an area in France.

The town of Bridport has a population of about twelve thousand nine hundred and seventy seven. The area of West Bay is about one and a half miles from the centre of the town. West Bay is a small harbour popular for fishing and the harbour is known as Bridport Harbour.

Bridport is made up of several little suburban districts, which includes Skilling, Coneygar, Allington, Bothenhampton and Bradpole.

There are a lot of districts that used to be surrounding small villages and these have gradually merged to create the town of Bridport. The area of Bothenhampton is still regarded by a lot of the locals as a separate large-scale village.

Bridport is located within the world heritage sites of Jurassic Coast and Chesil Beach. The cliffs that are made of loose clay have an abundant number of fossils and this makes the area very popular with fossil hunter.
