
The town of Bodmin in Cornwall has a population of about twelve thousand seven hundred and seventy eight. Bodmin was the county town of Cornwall up until the Crown Courts were moved to Truro. The town is located in the district of North Cornwall.
The town of Bodmin is located in central Cornwall and it is situated to the south west of Bodmin Moor. The name of the town comes from the archaic Cornish word "bod" which means dwelling and also a contraction of the word "menegh" which means monks.
There is a strong education network within the town although there is no independent school within the town or the local surrounding area. The primary school called St Petroc's is voluntarily assisted by the Church of England. St Petrocs School was given its name in September 1990 at the time when the St Petrocs Infant School merged with St Petrocs Junior School. St Petroc's is a very big school and it educates about four hundred and forty pupils aged between four and eleven years of age. The diocese of Truro nominated eight of the fourteen governs that operate within the school. The secondary education is offered through Bodmin College and this educates pupils that aged between eleven and eighteen years of age. The college is a large state comprehensive school that is located on the outskirts of the town and also on the edge of Bodmin Moor.
