
Ballater is a burgh within the county of Aberdeenshire and it is situated on the River Dee. The village of Ballater is located east of the Cairngorm Mountains. The Cairngorms stand at a height of about one hundred and twenty three meters therefore Ballater is a very popular place for hikers. This area is also well known for its spring water and this was once said to be the cure for scrofula.
The holiday home for the royal family that is known as Balmoral Castle is located about fourteen kilometres west of the village. The royal family have visited the home frequently since the time of Queen Victoria.

The village of Ballater is at the heart of tourism within the area of Royal Deeside and this is helped by both the Cairngorms and Balmoral Castle being within easy distance from the village.
There are two bike shops within the local area where it is possible to hire bikes and explore the rugged landscape that surrounds the town.
The old station in Ballater consists of Queen Victoria's waiting room and this is now a visitor centre that even features a royal carriage that is a replica. Balmoral Castle is about a ten-minute drive from Ballater.
There are a lot of events that are held within Ballater so there is something to suit all ages and tastes. These events attract a lot of locals and tourists alike. The Walking festival that is held in Ballater is an annual event that is usually held in May. This walking festival attracts a vast number of hill walkers that all have different levels of capability. The participants within the walking festival are guided through the various valleys and hills that are located east of the Cairngorms.
