"Since our first visit to Appleby Manor, we have regarded it as the benchmark against which we judge other hotels, and we are happy to report that we have still not found a UK hotel which comes close to Appleby Manor's high standards of service, food and accommodation. All too often we find that a potentially good hotel is let down by inexperienced and poorly trained staff, and it is a great relief to know that you have retained your most valuable asset, the staff team on which much of the success of Appleby Manor depends.
It goes without saying that we shall return to sample again the delights of Appleby Manor, probably in the spring of next year. In the mean time, please accept our gratitude for preserving an oasis of excellence in a dessert of mediocrity."
